Cowboys hurt by new NFL rule against Giants
Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr was called for a personal foul, and Dallas was penalized 15 yards in the first quarter. Carr was flagged for aggressively pulling Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. off of a scrum for a fumble.
Giants running back Rashad Jennings lost the ball, and it was recovered by Cowboys linebacker Anthony Hitchens. The fumble on the field, however, was overturned after review as the Giants kept possession. But Carr's penalty for pulling Beckham off of the pile still counted, helping push New York into field-goal range.
The NFL added the rule this season to better help protect players while trying to recover a fumble. NFL officials visited with players during training camp to explain the new rule.
