Javier Hernandez joined Bayer Leverkusen from Manchester United after glowing words from Bastian Schweinsteiger
Javier Hernandez joined Bayer Leverkusen from Manchester United following a positive recommendation from Bastian Schweinsteiger.
The Mexico striker, unwanted by United manager Louis van Gaal, joined the Bundesliga side on Monday in a deal worth £12m and signed a three-year contract.
And the 27-year-old revealed it was a chat with Germany captain Schweinsteiger that persuaded him to move there.
'Naturally I spoke with Basti. He had a lot of good thigns to say about Bayer, their way of playing and their coach (Roger Schmidt),' Hernandez said.
'That was a very big help for me.'
After scoring 59 goals in his first four seasons at Old Trafford, Hernandez found himself surplus to requirements when van Gaal arrived last season and was loaned to Real Madrid.
There, he netted nine times in 33 appearances, including the winning goal that beat Atletico Madrid and put Real into the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Returning to United, Hernandez came off the bench in the goalless draw with Newcastle United on August 22 and both legs of the Champions League play-off with Club Bruges.
But after missing a penalty in the second leg, Hernandez was allowed to move on and joined the club that finished fourth in the Bundesliga last season.
