Some big changes were announced earlier this week by DraftKings regarding their daily fantasy NASCAR offerings. The biggest change you'll see is the five-driver roster is now six and values of drivers have dropped across the board. The move will allow another driver in at the bottom of the upper tier, or top of the mid-tier. It'll definitely be a test as we figure out how to budget. As a little bonus with the expanded roster, I'll give an honorable mention pick in each salary class. It's my gift to you.
The other change was the elimination of the pass differential scoring category. I think this makes it easier to predict performance, as I thought pass differential was the toughest category to project. It was incredibly volatile, as pit stops and cautions could greatly affect it.
The removal of that category leaves us with finish position, start/finish differential, fastest laps run and laps led as the quartet of scoring categories, with no difference on how they're weighed.
Now we head back to Pocono, where the Sprint Cup Series raced less than two months ago. That, along with last week's race at Indianapolis, serve as good indicators of how drivers will run Sunday.
Here are drivers to watch, and some to avoid, in each (new) DraftKings salary class.
Remember, you get $50,000 to spend among your six-driver lineup, and it's not just the finishing position that comes into play, so find yourself a driver who'll lead a lot of laps, along with drivers who'll improve from their starting positions.
Big spenders ($9,000 or more)
